Educational & Support
Craft Classes: Classes we offer may include a Monthly Class, Mini Making, and Craft for a Cause. *Monthly classes are held the first Friday and third Thursday all months except April and December. We try to offer fun classes using suggestions from our clients and keep the cost at $10 or less. Scholarships may be available so that every person who wants to participate may do so. *Craft for a Cause is held (on Fridays) when needed to create fun decoration, table toppers, games, etc for the Senior Center with a goal of helping community groups with the same, when needed. There is never a cost for this gathering. There may be times when a larger crafting or arts project is presented or evening classes may be offered. Woodcarvers: Anyone with an interest is woodcarving is invited to join in. They meet most Mondays at 6 pm at the Kalkaska Senior Center. Any skill level is welcome. You are free to stop by to watch and ask questions or bring in your latest project. For questions or more info, please contact Bob Larsen at 231-709- 3673.
Book Club: We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 1 pm in the COA Conference Room. The club is lead by Jenn Borden and Lisa Anderson. They would love your input for upcoming books.
Lunch & Learns: We try to schedule Lunch & Learns monthly, sometimes, twice a month. Subject matter ranges from all manner of scams and frauds, food safety, mental health awarenes, safekeeping of medications, hospice and pallitiave care, with speakers from a variety of resources. These take place immediately following lunch service and last 15-30 minutes with some time alloted for questions.
Grief Support: Offered the first and third Wednesdays of each month,10:30 to 11:30 am, and facilitated by Heartland Hospice.
NPH Support: Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10 am.
One on One Support w/ DHHS: A Department of Health & Human Services representative will be at the Kalkaska Senior Center the fourth Wednesday of each month, from 10 am to 1 pm, on a first come, first served basis. They will be able to help with applications such as health care coverage, food assistance, cash assistance, emergency relief, and more.
